Too much sun exposure may lead to skin damage, but it is important to highlight why a certain amount of sun exposure is still necessary to maintain proper levels of vitamin D. Why is vitamin D so important for our bodies? The sunshine vitamin helps improve immune function, while also providing benefits surrounding skeletal health, blood pressure regularity, brain stimulation, and more. Due to evolution, our bodies are designed to absorb vitamin D and other nutrients from the sun’s rays, converting it into chemicals that we need to maintain good health.

Key Takeaways:

  • Vitamin D helps absorb calcium into the bones which will help with bone strength and durability.
  • Vitamin D helps the immune system as it prevents prolonged inflammatory responses and can repair damaged cells.
  • Vitamin D helps fight heart disease by lowering blood pressure and inflammation levels. It also can help ease cholesterol issues as well.

“It’s estimated that up to 95 percent of most people’s vitamin D comes from casual sunlight exposure.”
