What Kind of Bread Is the Healthiest?

What Kind of Bread Is the Healthiest?

March 21, 2020 By //  by Jennifer H Leave a Comment

If you want to pick out a very healthy type of bread, there are a few things that are necessary to know. Healthy bread usually contains three simple qualities. The bread will consist of 100% whole grain, it will have more than 5 grams of fiber per serving, and it will have no added sugar. Some breads that contain all 3 of these qualities include flax bread, oat bread and sprouted whole grain. When storing bread, wrap it in plastic or foil if you’re going to use it within a few days. If you need long-term storage, put it in an airtight bag and place it in the freezer.

Key Takeaways:

  • When looking for a healthy bread, try to get one that is 100% whole grain, has at least 5 grabs of fiber per saving, and has no added sugar.
  • Oat bread doesn’t have a strong taste but it has a really flexible texture and tends to consist mostly of oats and whole wheat flour.
  • When storing bread, keep it in foil or plastic. If you’re not going to be using it in the very near future, freeze it in an airtight bag.

“Unfortunately, there aren’t any labeling requirements to identify products as having “No added sugar,” so you need to check your ingredients list.”
